The University of Texas System Board of Regents approved the creation of a School of Computing at The University of Texas at Austin on February 19th, 2026. The school merges computer science, information, statistics and data sciences into a single unit inside the College of Natural Sciences. The university framed the decision as advancing its leadership in computing and artificial intelligence. UT Austin says the school is committed to recruiting and hiring 50 faculty positions. It is slated to open in Fall 2026, so the term now beginning is its first.
